Frustration

“In computing, turning the obvious into the useful is a living definition of the word ‘frustration’.”  –  Alan Perlis

I have been having computer woes. A week ago I upgraded my computer’s operation system and since then I have been having difficulties getting anything done.

“Expectation is the mother of all frustration” – Antonio Banderas

My expectation  was  my computer would work the same or possibly better after the upgrade. Unfortunately that hasn’t been the case.

“Frustration is not a work plan.” –  Ami Ayalon

Tell me about it. I cannot send email, web pages crash, internet response time is slower than the old fashioned dial-up, work disappears and cannot be retrieved. This is my third try with this post.

I have gathered together these quotes to hopefully put me in a better frame  of mind so that I can enjoy what I’m doing and not be whining about it.

“It took 10 months for me to learn to tie a lace; I must have howled with rage and frustration. But one day I could tie my laces. That no one can take from you. I profoundly distrust the pedagogy of ease.” –  George Steiner

I can identify with this one. It took me many months to learn to ride a bicycle. My friends, it appeared,  just got on a few times and were able to ride. Not me. I was beginning to feel as if it would never happen and then, one day, it did. It was the same with learning to drive a car, many who tried to teach me assured me that I would never own a license. Then a patient man, unconcerned with my errors, assured me that “everybody” can drive. And one day I received my driver’s license. It’s true that no-one can take these skills  away from me.

“Take the high road. No matter how much strife, and consternation, frustration and anger you might be confronted with – don’t go to that level.” –  Tim Gunn

I’m working on this one.

“Things never go the way you expect them to. That’s both the joy and frustration in life. I’m finding as I get older that I don’t mind, though. It’s the surprises that tickle me the most, the things you don’t see coming” -Michael Stuhlbarg

This is where I want to be

wish me luck with that

Until next time
